The club’s annual singing competition for the Sandy Watt Quaich provided a wonderful evening’s entertainment. The seventeen entrants followed the suggestion that ‘anything goes’ and offered a grand mix of styles - the familiar and the different, old favourites and real surprises, self penned and traditional, thought provoking and humorous. We had a Gaelic song, a song from Fiddler on the Roof, a couple of blues numbers, a Paul Simon classic, and even a song which Sandy Watt himself used to sing. The large audience voted for their favourites and the clear winners were Hugh and Lesley Toner who sang a song they had written that day – official title ‘In Remembrance’ (sub-titled The B-Flat Bodgers) - which included some veiled references to the club’s Weekend Away which had taken place over the previous few days! Hugh and Lesley hold the Quaich for a year (and also win a ticket to the 2010 Folk Feast). Honourable mentions go to Linda Dewar and to Joan McEwan who tied for second place. All competitors are to be congratulated for contributing to a highly entertaining evening which was greatly enjoyed by all present. |
