The annual weekend away in November is always extremely popular, so much so that there are often more people wanting to go than there are places available. This year the venue was Birchbrae in Onich near Fort William. The brochure described them as ‘Luxury Lodges’ and they definitely lived up to everybody’s expectations. Thirty five Club members travelled across to enjoy a ‘Folkie’ weekend from Friday 6th to Sunday 8th. Greeting us all was some Play Dough which Caroline provided for each chalet, and the challenge to make an animal or something along with a themed limerick, with the judging to take place on Saturday evening. The Four Seasons Restaurant was the venue for our group meal that night, and everything was superb in quality and value for money. Four Stars well deserved! But what about the Play Dough? At the chalets Donald and Mary Innes were asked to judge and after much deliberation the winners were declared as Chalet two, who were Sandy and Helen McInnes, Alison Wilson, along with the writer. The creation was a strange four legged two headed creature taking inspiration from the mythical ‘Push me Pull You’ along with a clever and amusing limerick mostly penned by Helen. Personally I blame it all on the wine consumption! The weather was kind to us which enticed a few to take trips up the ski slopes on the gondolas with spectacular views being the reward. Hill walking, photography,Fort William and coffee shops all played apart in providing recreation for all. Caroline is to be congratulated on one of the best weekends for many years, and no doubt it will be on the list for a return visit at some point. This is a selection of photos which captures a little of the flavour, but nothing can duplicate the great company, music and songs we all enjoyed together. Roll on next year! |
